Your A/C unit may not be the problem. Spray foam insulation is approx. 60% more efficient than blown in insulation, or even fiberglass insulation.

A vented attic space will heat up to 140-150 degrees in the summer. There’s no efficient way for your air-conditioner and vent-ductwork to work in that type of severe conditions. There is also opportunity for moisture to form due to condensation on these appliances, and at the vent in the ceiling. By applying spray foam directly to the underside of the roof deck, it now insulates the attic space from the extreme heat that once radiated through the hot roof. The severe temperatures no longer exist in the attic. In short, the attic now becomes a passively “conditioned” space of the house that is just as comfortable as any other room in the home. Approximately 5-15 degrees warmer than your A/C is set to.
